Jim Danner's Z-21

August 5, 2005

Started construction my Z-21 yesterday...should have the fin and rudder finished by the this weekend and will post pictures for a thorough critique...everything is cut, and tapered, and notched so all i have to do is assemble it.

I built a mockup of the fin out of Home Depot Douglas Fir last week and it went pretty well...but after getting my hands on some aircraft quality spruce, I have to say it's much nicer to work with.

Well, I was HOPING to have the fin and rudder done this weekend. I glued the fin up last night, and then the temperature dropped, so the G1 epoxy stayed tacky...I'm gonna have to start qluing in the morning, I think, and then find somewhere warm when winter rolls around...or move my operation into the dining room.

Spent the day hoping the G1 would harden and building rib jigs...

Here's a pic of my almost finished fin...

I'm gonna start laying out the fuselage this week too, after I glue up the rudder...

August 23, 2005 - Rough Fuselage With Fin & Rudder

Very, very rough. But this way people can actually tell what I'm building. The rudder still needs a lot of work, obviously. And the other fuselage side is glued up in the jig. (Also obvious, is how badly I've been neglecting my lawn in favor of building this flitzer. [])

Jim has decided to build a Z-3 Flitzer Falke. See Jim's Z-3 - Blake

I am shelving the Z-21 for the time being. I'll probably work on it while glue is drying on the Z-3, but it will probably only amount to a few wing ribs and things...
