July 21, 2004 - Engine Installation

This evening my friend and I lifted my engine onto the mount. Another milestone crossed.

Attached is a couple of pictures. Note that I had to reverse the aerovee back plate to put the starter on the right side to miss the engine mount tube.

August, 2004 - Prop Installed

My prop has arrived from Jay Anderson in Texas, made from walnut and ash. The final sand and shape has been left for me to do. I hope it performs...

September 26, 2004 - Engine

Flitzer followers,

Here are some snaps showing progress of my Aerovee engine installation. Pretty much just the electrical wiring and an oil cooler to go before the initial test run. I have been trying to find an oil cooler small enough to fit in the gap between the tail pipes and the fwd undercarrige attachements but have had little success. Not deterred I have set about designing a period looking home made affair with copper pipes and brass plates - watch this space...

I'm expecting the wings and tail surfaces back from the paint shop in the next week or so, by then I think all will be about ready. Exciting times!!!

October 7, 2004 - Engine Run

Exciting news..... This evening I started the Aerovee engine for the first time and ran it for about 5 minuets. It cracked into life without a cough or splutter and after only about two or three seconds on the starter button. It was only a short run as I was probably waking up my neighbours but all seemed well, systems working, smooth and the exhaust sound certainly does suit the airframe!

Photographic evidence attached. Notice the tail lashed to my car wheel...
