December 31, 2009 - Latest pictures of the Type RA

Group,

Here are three of a selection of new pictures taken this week by Tobias Hamacher, (who is about to embark on the construction of a Flitzer type with his wife Sarah) of Dudley Pattison's impressive Stummelflitzer Z-1RA.

Note the installed 'V'-type windscreen and the metal panels around the cabane and the tank bay. All the other panels for sealing around the cabane struts and the belly and pannier tank covers are made but are not yet fitted in these views.

More pictures to come of this exciting machine which will now have a less flamboyant colour scheme, the better to view the uncluttered lines.

Cheers,
Lynn

December 31, 2009 - Last Two

Group,

Here are two of the latest Flitzer enthusiasts, Lt. Tobias & Sarah Hamacher. They have already built and flown aerobatics in their RV8.

Pictures taken in the hangar on a wet and windy day in Wales. It is fitting that Flitzer types are being planned and built in Germany - the spiritual home of the Staaken Z-1 Luftschiffparasitapparat ! :0)

Cheers,
Lynn

February 21, 2010 - Progress

Hi All,

Great strides recently at the Wanborough Flitzer works. The engine has been fitted for the first time. Extra work has been carried out on the mount to withstand +9 -6G (far more than the pilot could stand) and from one of the attached photos you will see that extra work is necessary to lower the oil tank after I got involved with a bit of Australian misunderstanding. Well, they do have to live upside down don't they?

It is rapidly getting to the stage where I will need some covering material and a thumbs up from LAA engineering.

I am running another woodwork class next week so I have had to rearrange the muddles in the workshop and put the beast down on three points. It looks really big for a little aeroplane.

May 19, 2010 - Dudley's Z-1RA

Group,

Duds has posted me some very useful and informative pictures showing the arrangement of the fuel lines, pump and the attachment of the gascolator for his R2800 radial installation on his Stummelflitzer, including the internal picture at the firewall bulkhead which also shows the brakes, pedals and return springs, brake cable loops, fuel shut off, etc.

The other pictures show the aluminium support tabs for securing the aluminium sections which will fit immediately behind the engine, using the wooden ring former as a guide to shaping these.

The Z-1Rs are emerging as very impressive pieces of kit when seen in three-dimensions. No matter how much one imagines how these things will appear when rendering them in 2D, there's nothing to compare with the actuality, while the subtle and sometimes not so subtle differences between otherwise identical Flitzer types as they grow from the drawings, make the whole process fascinating for the designer.

Lovely work Duds.

September 14, 2010 - Dudley's Z-1RA

Hi Lynn,

My left foot step is much higher than Herves. See attached. I never could get my leg over properly:-) Luckily, I think Herve is now in the lead.

February 19, 2011 - Stummelflitzer Z-1RA Fornt End

Group,

Her's the latest from Dudley Pattison's workshop. The duo-cerved aluminium panels ar enow in position behind the Rotec R2800 radial engine.

Dudley is very pleased with the result. Who wouldn't be?

Cheers,
